Dhaka: Bangladesh's recent announcement on Friday has ushered in the appointment of the seasoned all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan, as the captain for their One Day International (ODI) team, for both the forthcoming Asia Cup and the highly anticipated 2023 World Cup.
In addition to these significant tournaments, Bangladesh's cricketing journey is set to involve a white-ball series against New Zealand, slated for late September, followed by their expedition to India, where they will contend in the World Cup, scheduled to commence on October 5.
Unveiling this pivotal decision, Nazmul Hassan, the President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), revealed that the imminent squads for both the World Cup and the Asia Cup are poised to be unveiled tomorrow. It was underscored that a compact team of 17 members will be meticulously selected by the panel of selectors.

This strategic transition has witnessed Shakib Al Hasan taking the reins from Tamim Iqbal, who, due to a back injury, had to relinquish his captaincy responsibilities for the Asia Cup.
Importantly, this appointment now solidifies Shakib Al Hasan's role as the captain across all three formats of the game. His leadership journey has traversed the realms of Test and T20I cricket, with him having assumed these roles since the early stages of last year.
Shakib Al Hasan's prior stint as the ODI captain for Bangladesh dates back to an encounter against Ireland at Malahide on May 12, 2017, where the match culminated in a non-conclusive outcome. The breadth of Shakib's captaincy experience spans across 52 ODIs, 19 Tests, and 39 T20Is, reflecting his extensive involvement at the helm. This leadership voyage, which commenced in 2009, has been characterized by intermittent periods of guidance.
