India's wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson could fail to find a place in India's squad for Asia Cup 2023. The Rajasthan Royals failed to leave a significant impact in the limited opportunities that he got in India's ODI and T20I series against West Indies and a recent media report suggests that it could well have a repercussion leading to Samson losing his place in the squad. A report carried by Times of India claims that the Kerala cricketer could miss the cut for the continentatl tournament set to commence on August 30.

It is pertinent to note that Asia Cup 2023 is set to be played in a hybrid-model this year with matches set to be played in Sri Lanka and Pakistan. This was after India's reluctance to travel to Pakistan. Consequently, all India matches are being played in Pakistan with the semis and final also slated in the island nation.

From what is being learnt so far, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee will pick the India squad for Asia Cup on August 20 (Sunday) and with India losing the T20I series 3-2 seems like Samson could be dropped. The 28-year-old could only produce scores of 12, 7 and 13 in three T20Is along with contributions of 9 and 51 in the final two ODIs. Meanwhile, the same TOI report has cited a source who has informed that the committee will only announce the India squad for the Asia Cup with the ODI World Cup team set to be picked later.
