Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed the appointment of Sanath Jayasuriya as the permanent head coach of the men's team after their great run of form in the recent matches. Notably, the ex-Sri Lankan opener had taken over as the interim coach after the T20 World Cup 2024. However, his appointment as the head coach has now been confirmed till March 2026.

"Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) wishes to announce the appointment of Sanath Jayasuriya as the head coach of the national team. The Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket made this decision taking into consideration the team’s good performances in the recent tours against India, England, and New Zealand, where Jayasuriya was in charge as the ‘interim head coach.’. The appointment came into effect on October 1, 2024, and will remain until March 31, 2026," an official statement from Sri Lanka cricket read.






Sri Lanka's Performance Under Coach Jayasuriya


The Sri Lankan team's performance has seen improvement ever since Jayasuriya took over as the coach. The former Sri Lankan skipper's tenure started with the home series against India where they emerged victorious in the ODI format.

After the India series, Sri Lanka toured England where they went on to beat the hosts at the Oval in a Test match. Sri Lanka then beat New Zealand 2-0 in a Test series. As a full-time head coach, Jayasuriya's first T20I and ODI series assignment is the T20I and ODI series against West Indies which begins on October 13.
