The Sri Lanka series will be the first assignment for new head coach Gautam Gambhir. While it was initially reported that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma would be rested for the ODIs, it is now being learnt that Rohit was contacted and has agreed to participate in the three-match T20I series in Sri Lanka.

Virat Kohli Yet To Confirm His Availability For Sri Lanka ODIs

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya, the man who was Rohit's deputy in USA and West Indies, has asked the team management for a break from the ODI-leg of the tour citing personal reasons. While the selectors have also reached out to Virat Kohli, the senior batter is yet to confirm his availability for the Sri Lanka series.

The other big news coming in regarding the Sri Lanka series is that Suryakumar Yadav could be trusted as the T20I captain ahead of Hardik Pandya. This is because of head coach Gambhir wanting SKY to take that role instead of Hardik. A BCCI source quoted by TOI, meanwhile, also reckons that Suryakumar could even lead the Men in Blue in the T20 World Cup 2026.

India's tour of Sri Lanka commences with the T20I series with the first of the three matches scheduled to be played on July 27 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
