Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will likely miss the upcoming T20 World Cup after he injured himself in Dubai. According to a Times Of India report, the left-handed batsman, on a tour with the Indian team for the Asia Cup 2022, was injured while doing a water-based adventure activity. He twisted his knee during the activity and had to undergo surgery. It is being reported that the all-rounder will not be fit in time for the T20 World Cup 2022 event in Australia.
“He (Ravindra Jadeja) had to balance himself on some kind of a ski-board as part of an adventure activity – not part of the training manual at all. It was absolutely unnecessary. He slipped and twisted his knee badly, which led to surgery," sources informed Times Of India.
As per the report, Jadeja underwent surgery in Mumbai under the guidance of senior orthopaedic surgeon Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala.
At the time of filing this report, BCCI has not made any official announcement regarding the injury or exclusion of the Saurashtra player.
Earlier, on September 6, Chennai Super Kings posted a picture of Jadeja with walkers and wished him well for a recovery. "Speedy Returns, Jaddu," the CSK handle tweeted.
In Asia Cup 2022, the all-rounder bowled two overs in the opening match against arch-rivals Pakistan and also scored 35 runs off 29 balls. While he did not bat against Hong Kong in the next Asia Cup Group A game, Jadeja was the most economical among bowlers giving away 15 runs in four overs for one wicket. It is after this match that Jadeja suffered an injury and missed India’s Super 4 matches.
