IND vs ENG HIGHLIGHTS: India Beat England By 100 Runs To Go Top Of The World Cup Points Table
ODI World Cup 2023, IND vs ENG HIGHLIGHTS: Guided by Rohit Sharma's innings and backed by a brilliant performance by the bowlers, India have registered their sixth win in a row this tournament.
Good night from all of us at ABP LIVE. Totally enjoyed covering this game which has taken India to the top of the World Cup 2023 points table. England with 2 points after 6 matches and a net run rate worse than that of Bangladesh find themselves at the rock bottom. Who would have imagined that at the start of the tournament given they had such quality players and were the defending champions? Almost on the verge of elimination now the Three Lions while India have a foot in the semis. On that good note (for all those who Bleed Blue), it's bye-bye now. For latest from India and around the world, keep following us and showering your love and support.
WHAT A PERFORMANCE this. Odds were against India after they were asked to bat first and were reduced to 40/3 but India's captain led from the front. A very un Rohit-like knock realising the demand of the situation as he made 87 off 101. He gets the Player of the match. Not to forget Suryakumar Yadav's 49 off 47. KL Rahul too chipped in with 39 off 58 but India only managed 229/9 which was 20-30 short by the captain's own admission. But then the bowlers were in sublime form. There was all the talk about the Indian spinners but Shami was the wrecker-in-chief with 4 for 22, Bumrah was special too with 3 for 32. Spinners weren't bad either with Kuldeep Yadav probably bowling the ball of the day to dismiss Jos Buttler and ending with figures of 2 for 24. Ravindra Jadeja also picked 1 for 16. Liam Livingstone top-scored for England with 27 off 46 which was far from enough as India registered a famous win. Aboslute honour to be able to bring in the updates for this fixture.
India beat England by 100 runs. What a performance this as Bumrah has bowled Wood with a yorker.
Bumrah From The Other End. What an outing this has been for the Indian bowlers. It was advantage to England certainly in the mid-innings break but this has been a superb performance to take two points from this match.
After 34 overs, ENG- 122/9.
It's Shami again. WICKET! Rashid has played all around that and Shami gets one through to get to claim his fourth wicket today, ninth in two games. ENG- 122/9.
Shami From The Other End. The best Indian bowler on display this evening.
Almost a wicket off the last ball as the ball lands in no man's land. ENG- 112/8 after 33 overs.
Bumrah returns but has been welcomed by a six over midwicket by Willey.
2 Singles Off 32nd delivered by Kuldeep who has now bowled eight overs. ENG- 104/8 after 32 overs.
1 off the 31st over then as India look to wrap up the tail in Lucknow. After 31 overs, ENG- 102/8.
Jadeja To Continue from the other end.
30 overs done. ENG- 101/8. Kuldeep finishes a successful spell.
Livingstone walks back for 27 off 46 as the projection shows it would have gone on to hit off and middle. England's horror run continues in this World Cup as they are heading to another defeat. ENG- 98/8 after 29.2 Overs.
Is that the final nail in the coffin? On-field umpire has raised his finger. An LBW shout by Kuldeep against Livingstone.
Wicket maiden from Jadeja. ENG- 98/7 after 29 overs.
DRINKS break. India on top and sensing a win now. Bumrah, Shami, Kuldeep, Jadeja all amongst the wickets with Shami being the best so far. Another flop show for England batters.
Jadeja amongst the wickets now. Woakes comes down the track trying to manufacture a big shot but gets beaten and a simple stumping for KL Rahul. ENG- 98/7 after 28.1 Overs.
A 4-Run Over To Follow the 3-run over. ENG- 98/6 after 28 overs. They need 132 from 22 overs. Required rate up to 6 now.
Back To Kuldeep from India who has been exceptional too.
3 runs off the over. ENG- 94/6 after 27 overs.
Still Jadeja from the other end.
Good shot from Woakes to find the boundary off Shami. Over cover with width on offer. 7 off the over. ENG- 91/6 after 26 overs.
Halfway Through The England innings. They are far from reaching half their batting target and have already lost more than half of their side. ENG- 84/6 after 25 overs.
Jadeja to continue then from the other end.
5 overs, 3 for 5 for Shami then. Playing his second match in the tournament.
Chris Woakes The New Man In. A Sternous task ahead of him and England.
SHAMI RETURNS AND SHAMI STRIKES FIRST BALL OF SECOND SPELL. Angled in to the left-hander from round the wicket but gets it to seam away and produces the edge as Moeen Ali is out caught behind for 15 off 31. ENG- 81/6 after 23.1 overs.
2 off the 23rd then, delivered by Jadeja. ENG- 81/5. A partnership, much-needed one, for England developing.
Livingstone Finds The Boundary in that over with a sweep shot. England get 7 in the over. They reach 79/5 after 22 overs.
Jadeja Rushes Through Another Over. 4 singles off the 21st over. ENG- 72/5 after 21 overs.
Kuldeep Keeping It Tight. There's a left-arm wrist spinner on top of his game, beating Livingstone on the inside edge on one particular occasion in that over. ENG- 68/5 after 20 overs.
And Jaddu has slipped in an over there. ENG- 67/5 after 19 overs.
Time For Ravindra Jadeja into the attack. Sign of a few quick overs with spinners in action from both ends.
Kuldeep rushes through another over. ENG- 64/5 after 18 overs.
Four to end the 17th over. Siraj was the bowler. Welcome boundary for England as Siraj misses his line and was a bit too leg-sidish on that occasion. ENG- 61/5.
End Of Another Successful Over. ENG- 54/5 after 16 overs. Liam Livingstone is the new man in.
Kuldeep has cleaned up Buttler. Turn gets the better of the England captain. Is that the game for India then? Buttler goes back for 10 off 23. ENG- 52/5 after 15.1 Overs.
Field has spread out after the powerplay and singles and doubles are on offer which the two are making use of. They fetch 5 runs off the Siraj over to take the score to 52/4 after 15 overs.
50 Comes up for England in the 15th over. Run rate not an issue as is the wickets column at the moment.
Tidy Start from Kuldeep. 2 singles from his first over. ENG- 47/4 after 14 overs.
Slip In Place for both batters against Kuldeep.
Time For Spin now. The way England batters tackle Kuldeep Yadav could be decisive from here. Left-arm wrist-spinner. Moeen to face.
SO the first drinks break in this innings. India on top with England reduced to 45/4. Two wickets apiece for Bumrah and Shami. Siraj wasn't upto the mark in his first spell but has been better in the second. Buttler-5* off 17 and Moeen-4*off 10 in the middle. Big partnership this for England
Two singles and a leg bye off that over. ENG-45/4 after 13 overs.
Still Pace At Both Ends as Siraj continues.
Shami continues. He is in the middle of a superb spell. Can India get past Buttler and for all practical purposes end England's hopes?
Just a single off the 11th over. ENG- 41/4 after 11 overs.
Siraj is back. Replaces Bumrah who had a 5-over burst.
10 overs bowled, England-40/4. Just 1 run and a wicket in that over. Shami's 3 overs 2 for 4 so far. Outsanding spell.
Second hat-trick ball in this innings. This time for Shami. But Moeen Ali survives.
Mohammed Shami Reduces England To 39/4 as the seamer hasn't allowed Bairstow any room and he gets out played on. ENG- 39/4 after 9.1 Overs. Batter departs for 14 off 23.
Third man should have cut it off but Siraj fumbles and Buttler & England get a much-needed boundary. ENG- 39/3 after 9 overs.
Tough chance but Kohli gets a hand to it and could have held on to it. It was Bairstow who manages a single as the ball goes to third man after Bumrah produced the edge.
Buttler In At 5. England need their captain to fire here in Lucknow.
SHAMI GETS RID OF STOKES! You could sense it coming. That was 15 dot balls in a row in the build up to this ball and Strokes trying to break the shackles completely misses this and departs for a duck off 10 balls. ENG- 33/3 after 8 overs.
Shami To Continue now. Great phase of the game this for India.
India played out quite a few maiden overs during their innings. Here is the first one in their bowling innings. Bumrah produces this for the hosts. ENG- 33/2 after 7 overs.
Bairstow survives, just about. But the crowd backing the Men in Blue, exactly how one would imagine.
Hat-Trick Ball for Bumrah. Bairstow to face.
Stokes and Bairstow in the middle for England. 3 runs off the sixth over, Shami's first. ENG- 33/2 after 6 overs.
Shami Introduced early. Siraj wasn't looking at his best and so in comes Siraj with the ball only 2 overs old from this end. Siraj also more than capable ofmaking the best use of these conditions.
Bumrah removes Root for a golden duck. India back in the game and it's their strike bowler Bumrah who has got them back on top. ENG- 30/2 after 5 overs.
Is That Two wickets in two balls for India? On-field decision is out but Joe Root has reviewed that LBW call.
Bumrah strikes. Coming round the wicket to the left-hander Malan has done the trick finally. He might have conceded a boundary but he cramps the southpaw for room who drags the ball on to the wicket, while trying to cut it on the off side. ENG-30/1 after 4.5 Overs.
Six runs off the fourth over then. ENG- 26/0 after 4 overs.
Another boundary from Bairstow, driven between cover and mid off, the first ball of his second over.
Better From Bumrah barring that wide. There is movement on offer with the new ball but neither of the seamers have managed to get their lines aboslutely spot on in this match so far. After 3 overs, ENG- 20/0.
Early signs that the left and right-hand opening combination is giving headache to Indian pacers. Two wides in the last over, in this over already.
13 runs coming off the second over then. ENG- 17/0 after 2 overs.
What a shot that from Malan to get off the mark. Over midwicket for six and he follows that for a drive down the ground for a boundary. England off to attacking start.
Siraj with the new ball from the other end.
It's a boundary to end the opening over. Width on offer on the last ball and Bairstow needed no second invitation to pounce on to that opportunity. ENG- 4/0 after 1 over.
Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan open for England. Jasprit Bumrah with the new ball for India. England need 230.
Interesting Run Chase Coming Up. Before the start of World Cup if one would have said England 230 to win against India who has the higher chance- one would have easily said England but given the way the Three Lions have struggled with the bat, India will be in the game as well. But advantage certainly to England. A lot will depend on the kind of start England are off to in the run-chase. David Willey (3/45 off 10), Chris Woakes (2/33 off 9), Adil Rashid (2 for 35 off 10) and Mark Wood (1 for 46 off 9 overs) were the wicket-takers for England. They will need their batters to step up now to win it from here.
That's that then from the Indian innings. Asked to bat first for the first time this World Cup 2023, they have managed to post 229/9 in 50 overs with a run out off the final ball as Bumrah and Kuldeep try to sneak a run. They were 40/3 at one stage but could reach the eventual total largely due to the brilliance of Rohit Sharma who made 87 off 101 on a tricky surface and Suryakumar Yadav's 49 off 47. England's bowlers though won't mind this total but can they chase it down against Indian bowlers in good form? We shall find out.
5 Off The 49th Over. IND- 225/8 after 49 overs. How many more can India add?
Rohit's Innings Looking All The More Crucial In Retrospect and SKY's effort too. Will be interesting to see how the Indian spinners bowl. No Ashwin remember in this match, might have been a tempting option but they have got three quality seamers, have India.
IND- 220/8. 12 legal deliveries remaining. And a change of ends for Mark Wood who will bowl the 49th over.
Bumrah into the double figures. Useful runs these for India.
Woakes To bowl The 48th Over. He will probably come back for the 50th, if the need arises.
Kuldeep into the act. The Indian lower order batters have been asked to work on their batting by the support staff and today is their chance. Kuldeep with a bit of a classy glance on a ball drifting down leg from Willey for a boundary. That ends the 47th over and Willey's spell. IND- 214/8 after 47 overs.
Bumrah and new man in Kuldeep In The Middle. The question now is can India bat out the 50 overs from here.
Suryakumar Yadav departs. Willey strikes! SKY goes finds the fielder on the off side. He has hit that straight to him. Out for 49 off 47, that would certainly cost India some useful runs in the remaining 3 overs and a bit. IND- 208/8 after 46.2 Overs.
Willey To Finish Off here, bowling his 10th over.
Four from Bumrah followed by a dropped cath that has allowed two more. Moeen Ali the culprit there. 13 runs then from the 46th over as Suryakumar denies a single off the final ball of the Wood over to keep strike. IND- 208/7 after 46 overs.
Extra pace of Wood and Suryakumar with a trademark flick over fine leg. India get past 200. India need batters other than Rohit and Kohli to lift the World Cup and will SKY put his hand up today. So far he has done that with 48 off 44. India need him to bat through this innings.
Just a run off the 45th over. SKY taking a single off the third ball then not taking a run off the last ball. Wonder what's going through Suryakumar's mind. IND- 195/7 after 45 overs.
Willey Returns for what could be his final burst with two overs remaining.
4 Coming Off the 44th over. IND- 194/7. India badly need a SKY special in the final 6 overs to give themselves the total they need and the momentum going into the second half of the match.
Wood To Continue. SKY to face.
IND- 190/7 after 43 overs. So a very fascinating phase of the game coming up.
SKY with a couple and a boundary already. Boundary with a sweep behind square. Two things on his mind, hog maximum strike and maximise India's tally of runs from here.
And a wicket maiden at this stage from England. Very precious. IND- 183/7 after 42 overs.
Suryakumar Yadav the key here for India now. Bumrah joins him with less than 9 overs to go.
Wood strikes. It's a long batting tail for India and the first of the long list of tail-enders goes for 1 off 5. Faint nick through to the keeper. Wood has a wicket. IND- 183/7 after 41.2 Overs.
3 Runs And A Wicket then from the 41st over. IND- 183/6 after 41 overs.
It is a wicket indeed on umpire's call as the ball clips leg-stump on the DRS projection. England expose India's tail then as Rashid strikes. IND-182/6 after 40.3 Overs.
Umpire has given it out but Jadeja reviews this LBW call against Rashid.
The last ball has beaten everyone, the batter and the keeper and it goes for four after SKY fails to connect an attempted reverse-sweep. IND- 180/5 after 40 overs. Last 10 overs to go then.
So just a single off the over. IND- 172/5 after 39 overs. This is the last recognised batting pair for India which means they would want to take it a bit deep before they go about playing their shots.
Rashid To Continue. Left and right-hand combination for the first time in play with Jadeja coming in.
Moeen Ali has just slipped in a 6-run over. IND- 171/5 after 38 overs.
Rashid ends a successful over. 2 runs and a wicket. IND- 165/5 after 37 overs. Ravindra Jadeja has joined SKY at the middle. Livingstone produced that great running catch, covering a lot of distance but might have injured his knee.
Rohit falls for 87 off 101. Picked the google from the leg-spinner but fails to time it to perfectio. IND- 164/5 after 36.5 overs, Rashid gets the breakthrough.
Adil Rashid into the attack then. 6 overs, none for 22.
0 Extras So Fars so a disciplined effort from the English bowlers.
SKY finds the fence with a boundary off sweep. Another boundary behind the wicket. That allows India to get 8 runs from the 36 over. IND- 163/4 after 36 overs.
Ali Bowling His Sixth. 5 overs, none for 19 so far.
15 overs to go in the innings then as Willey concludes an eight-run over. IND-155/4 aftter 35 overs. Going at 4.42 runs per over. Surely, India eyeing somewhere between 100-150 runs in the remaining overs, ideally.
Willey Continues but starts off with a wayward ball down the leg and SKY does what he does best, puts it for a four behind the wicket to begin the over.
Another economical over from the 36-year-old. Gives away just 2 singles off it. IND- 147/4 after 34 overs.
Moeen To Continue. He has kept things tight.
4 Singles of Willey's second over in this spell. Could be his last too in this spell. For now, IND-145/4 after 33 overs.
So 4 singles from the over. The wicket of Rahul might force Rohit to slow down a bit. His wicket now becomes extremely important. After 32 overs, IND-141/4.
Moeen Ali to continue from the other end.
Important Innings For Suryakumar Yadav this. His second in this World Cup. He got run-out the first time around against New Zealand but there are round about 20 overs remaining in this innings and he must contribute handsomely if India want to post a solid total from here. He starts off with a boundary, finding a boundary in between the bowler and mid-on. IND- 137/4 after 31 overs.
IND- 131/4 after 30.2 overs. Suryakumar Yadav joins Rohit. Two wickets apiece for Willey and Woakes. Very uncharacteristic shot from Rahul perhaps trying to put his foot on the pedal.
And another Indian batter who looks ugly while getting out. This is not the surface where you can trust the pace of the pitch and another batter trying to break the shackles and going through with the shot departs. This time it's KL Rahul and the tactic to bring back Willey into the attack has worked. Rahul goes for 39 off 58, caught at mid-on. IND- 131/4 after 30.2 overs.
5 overs, 1 for 20 in his first spell. Can he break this stand which is worth 91 already?
Once again this is a man in complete control of his game. He knows it will turn and where the fielders are, just comes down the track for a lofted shot that clears the infield for a four over long off. India get six from the over. They are 131/3 after 30 overs.
With the help of that boundary, India get 7 off the 29th over. IND- 125/3.
Some superb display of skill this from Rohit. Down the track on a turning track to roll his wrist and play against the spin off Livingstone for a four.
A single each from Rahul and Rahul off the 28th over. Moeen bowled it. IND- 118/3 after 28 overs. They are going at 4.21 runs an over.
FOUR and FOUR, It's RO- HIT. First off the left of the fielder at short third with a reverse sweep, then off his right off the cut. Unleashing his wide range of strokes and his understanding and reading of the game is the Indian captain. 11 runs off the 27th over. IND-116/3 after 27 overs.
Spinners Bowling In Tandem at the moment for England. So this could be a rushed phase of the game. Livingstone and Moeen operating from the two ends.
5 off the over to end the 26th. IND- 105/3 after 26 overs. A couple and three singles from that over.
2500 runs in ODIs for KL Rahul. Gets there in his 63rd innings.
Moeen Ali for the first time in this match.
That's 100 for India for the loss of 3 wickets at the end of the 25th over which went for 11 runs. Run rate has increased to 4 now.
Three successive boundaries then from the bat of Rahul against Livingstone. One off the outside edge, one on the sweep, and one cut away towards the cover-point region. Surely, India should carry the momentum from here.
So 8 coming off that over. IND- 89/3 after 24 overs. Will that over allow India to get some impetus too into the innings after a fairly cautious stand?
Typical Hitman flick for a maximum on the leg side from the man with the most sixes in international cricket.
Half-Century For Rohit. Not the most Rohit-like innings that we have seen so far in this World Cup but the team needed him to deliver under pressure and the job is still not done yet. Gets there off 66 balls.
Wood Continues from the other end. Rohit on 49, facing.
Another maiden over. Just one maiden before this match against India and now suddenly three in this match itself. IND- 81/3 after 23 overs.
Liam Livingstone Into The Attack. Fifth bowler being introduced. Huge phase of the match this. Will England continue to dominate or India find a way to come back into a position of control?
3 off the 22nd over. Wood was the bowler. IND- 81/3. Fans anticipating a Rohit fifty with him batting on 49 at the moment.
Seems To Be A Two-Paced Pitch this as is also being suggested by cricket pundits and experts. Some ball bouncing more, others keeping low which is why this has been a great effort so far from Rohit especially how he has played against his own natural template.
Those were the two scoring shots then off the over. IND- 78/3 after 21 overs.
Rashid has been swept twice in this over, once for single by Rahul, once for a boundary behind square by Rohit which helps him complete 18,000 international runs.
That's the end of 20 overs. IND- 73/3. Wood goes for 3 off the last over he bowled.
Cruical partnership this and while the two batters are happy to do it with occasional boundaries, the run rate is still under four. Wonder when at least one of them decides to score a little more freely. Surely, something around 270 would be in their minds. Or can they better it?
Jsut 3 singles off the 19th over, Rashid's fifth. He has conceded just 17 from his 5 overs so far. IND- 70/3 after 19 overs going at 3.68 runs an over.
Rohit Sharma has become the third in the world to score 1000 ODI runs in 2023. The other two being Shubman Gill and Sri Lanka's Pathum Nissanka.
Boundary Off An Edge In that Over. From the bat of KL Rahul. Extra pace of Wood helping India on that occasion. A single to go with it in that over. IND- 67/3 after 18 overs.
Mark Wood continues for England.
7 runs coming off that Rashid over with the help of that boundary. IND- 62/3 after 17 overs.
That is a master at work. Rohit with a boundary all along the ground, rare but gorgeous as he nailed the timing and placement on that occasion. Moves into the 40s but the Men in Blue need a big daddy hundred from him which has been missing from his portfolio ever since he took that aggressive approach. Today though the situation demands a different Rohit.
Rashid will start the proceedings for England after the drinks break. 3 overs, none for 7 so far.
That's drinks. India not in a comfortable position but then this is a slightly challenging surface and it would be difficult to assess what is a good score. A lot depends on this partnership though. Rohit-37* off 50, KL Rahul- 5* off 8. Willey and Woakes the successful bowlers for England so far. Wood and Rashid bowling in tandem at the moment for the Englishmen.
Rohit survives, the ball was missing the leg stump coming in with the angle and he responds with a boundary off the next ball slashing his bat hard to a delivery that offered him room outside off. 16 Overs Done, IND- 55/3.
Up goes the finger but Rohit has reviewed this LBW call off Wood.
Finally a change in bowling after 7 overs on the trot for Chris Woakes. Mark Wood replaces him.
Rashid continues from the other end. Just one from that over. After 15 overs, IND- 50/3. Rohit Sharma- 33* off 45, KL Rahul- 4* off 7. Run rate of 3.33.
Rohit comes down the track to go over the infield and finds the boundary off the last ball of the 14th over in the long on region. IND- 49/3 after 14 overs. Probably the last over of Woakes' spell too.
7th Over On The Trot For Woakes then. KL Rahul and Rohit in the middle with a huge task ahead of them.
Meanwhile, Rashid has slipped in another quite over. Just 2 runs off it. IND- 42/3 after 13 overs. Going at 3.23 runs at the moment.
End of another successful over then. 1 run and 1 wicket from the 12th over. IND- 40/3 after 12 overs.
And Woakes gets his second. It's a difficult surface for stroke making which is why even the most fluent of strikers are looking ugly while getting out. Iyer on that occasion couldn't clear mid on. The ploy to continue with Woakes reaps rewards for England. IND- 40/3 after 11.5 Overs
Rajesh Pal from ground zero earlier sent in the visuals before the start of the match. He reckoned Kohli would make it count. Didn't quite turn out to be the case today. But leaving you with what he shared.
Woakes continues from the other end. Bowling his sixth on the trot.
Just 4 singles from the over then. India take their score to 39/2 after 11 overs.
So spin for the first time in this innings. It has a reputation of being a spin-friendly surface and Adil Rashid comes straight after the end of the powerplay.
Just a streaky boundary in that over from Woakes to end the powerplay. Rohit the batter who found the fence. IND- 35/2 after 10. Rohit Sharma- 24* off 30, Shreyas Iyer- 2* off 8. 5 overs each from Willy and Woakes then from England in the powerplay and what a powerplay this has been for them especially considering that 18 off the 35 runs came in one over itself.
Second maiden of the innings, second for Willey, this time to Shreyas Iyer. After 9 overs, IND- 31/2.
India Under Pressure. They have been in a few such phases in this campaign but this will be different as they are batting first and it would be interesting to see their assessment of the surface and how Rohit goes about his job from here. He has been the other in-form man but this hasn't gone as per his free-flowing six-hitting template and doubt it will be easy at this moment after a couple of early blows especially on this surface.
Woakes finishes his fourth over. 3 runs from it. A single off the bat of Iyer and a couple from the bat of Rohit off the fifth ball. After 8 overs, IND- 31/2.
Seven overs done, IND- 28/2. Not the kind of start India have been used to in their last four matches barring the first game where they were 0/3. But Kohli the man who has taken them through in every match but for that game against Pakistan is out for a nine-ball duck. Gill went back for 9 off 13 from an indipper from Woakes and the wicket seems to be on the slower side. Rohit and Shreyas out in the middle and Woakes and Willey have been the two bowlers used so far by Buttler.
WICKET!! Not the best of news for Indian fans as Virat Kohli departs for a duck. Willey tries to go over mid off but the lack of pace in this surface gets the better of him and an easy catch for the fielder Stokes . IND- 27/2 after 6.5 Overs.
Join me in thanking Shivam Sharma and Ashish Satyam who narrated the turn of events in this IND vs ENG fixture so far. And now it will be me, Saurabh Ganguly, who will try and talk you through the end of the match.
Woakes comes up with a first breakthrough as he bowls a sharp in-swinger and Gill fails to decode it. The ball comes in and ends up rattling the stumps. Big blow to India
Rohit unleashes fire as he steps out and hits it straight for a maximum. What a shot!! Willey gives away 18 runs in third over.
Willey again with the bowl and starts with a deadly yorker but Rohit plays it well. The skipper goes down the ground and hits a beautiful boundary. He follows it up with a huge six as he forces the bowler to change his length.
Woakes has been given the ball to bowl the second over. Gill is on strike and he fails to judge the first two deliveries. He capitalizes on the next delivery and gets the result as he times it to perfection for a boundary. Good shot!!
That's a maiden over by Willey. IND 0/0 (1)
Slower deliveries have always worked for Willey and he is doing the same against the Indian openers here in Lucknow.
Rohit and Shubman Gill start batting for India. Willey bowls the first over.
Action to start soon as the national anthems of both teams have been done now.
India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma(c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul(w), Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj
England (Playing XI): Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler(w/c), Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, David Willey, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood
Rohit Sharma: We wanted to bat first, we have had a good time batting second. It’s a good surface, it has played well for the 100 overs. It’s quite important to think like that and is also important to play well. We have played some good cricket. It's always good to have a break. It's nice to come back here and get back into business. We are playing the same team we played in the last game.
Jos Buttler: We are going to bowl first today. Not anything in particular, it's a tough decision. It's a great occasion and hopefully, today we bring our best. Today, we want to put up a good show. Playing in front of a full crowd and against India, it's a great occasion. We are going with the same team.
