MS Dhoni Will Stay With Indian Team 'Only For The World Cup' Says BCCI President Sourav Ganguly: Report

ICC T20 World Cup: MS Dhoni will only stay with team India till the end of the T20 World Cup in UAE and Oman.

Sourav Ganguly, the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has said that Mahendra Singh Dhoni will stay as a mentor to team India only during the period of the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup. Ganguly was speaking with the newspaper, Telegraph.

"He will be there only for the T20 World Cup. He’s made it clear to us," Ganguly told Telegraph.

MS Dhoni has been appointed as the mentor to team India for the upcoming T20 World Cup that is set to be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman from October 2021. Adding that MS has a good record in the T20s, Ganguly said his presence will help team India win the trophy.

"It’s just to help the side in the World Cup. He has a good record in the T20 format for India and the Chennai Super Kings. There has been a lot of thought behind it. We discussed a lot and then decided to have him on board," Ganguly said.

India has not won a single ICC Trophy since the 2013 Champions Trophy when Mahi was the captain of the team. Since then, India has played in four WCs but did not manage to win any.

"We haven’t won an ICC trophy since 2013. Remember Australia had Steve Waugh in a similar role when they drew the Ashes 2-2 in England the last time. The presence of such heavyweights in big-ticket events always helps," added the BCCI president.

A Bollywood film is set to be shot on the life of Sourav Ganguly. Dada sounded excited for it as he said, "Thrilled, of course. I signed the contract on Friday. The actors and actresses will be decided later, depending on their availability. It also depends on the production house. Fingers crossed.…"
