Meghalaya all-rounder Abhay Negi played a blistering knock against Mizoram in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy to slam the fastest fifty in the history of India's premier state T20 tournament on Sunday. Abhay notched up a 14-ball half-century against Mizoram and broke the record of Robin Uthappa in India’s domestic T20 tournament. With this whirlwind half ton, Abhay Negi also equaled Kl Rahul's record of fastest fifty in T20 cricket in India. Rahul had blasted the fastest fifty in IPL history in the match against Delhi Capitals in Mohali in 2018. Rahul took just 14 balls to smash fifty runs in a knock which included four sixes and six boundaries as Kings XI Punjab chased down the target of 167 with 6 wickets in hand to open their campaign with a resounding win. Abhay was unbeaten on 50 runs in just 15 deliveries, with his knock studded with two fours and six sixes. Abhay’s knock guides Meghalaya to a mammoth total of 207 for 4 wickets in 20 overs with Ravi Teja scoring 53 not out. With the IPL 2020 auctions around the corner, Abhay’s scintillating knock will surely raise a few eyebrows and the Meghalaya all-rounder may invite bidding wars between various franchises. Born in Uttarakhand, the 27-year-old has played for Meghalaya and Tripura in first class cricket. He made his first-class debut against Shillong in November last year and his T20 debut versus Bengal in Ranchi in January 2018. Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh holds the record for fastest T20 half-century for any Indian. Yuvraj had set the record in 2007 during the T20 World Cup against England in Durban. His innings included six sixes in an over off pacer Stuart Broad.
