WATCH: Lizella Lee smashes 37-ball 70 but one shot steals the show

Most of the biggies were slog-swept over mid-wicket while one of them only narrowly avoided hitting the Surrey Director of Women’s Cricket

Magnificent half-centuries from Lizella Lee and Sarah Taylor helped the Surrey Stars claiming a crucial victory over Lancashire Thunder in the Women’s Super League on Tuesday.

After losing the opener Bryony Smith in the third over of the match, Lee and Taylor made sure that they take the innings ahead without any failure. The duo stitched a 94-run partnership for the second which helped the stars post 167/8.

Lee hammered a magnificent 37-ball 70 including 5 fours and 6 sixes. Most of the biggies were slog-swept over mid-wicket while one of them only narrowly avoided hitting Ebony Rainford-Brent, the Surrey Director of Women’s Cricket, who had tripped over a kit bag behind the ropes.

On the other hand, Taylor ended up scoring a 37-ball 51 and slammed 8 boundaries.

With Nicole Bolton and Evelyn Jones starting well for the Thunder, it appeared that the chase might not be as tricky as it seemed as they added 55 for the opening wicket. However, Dane van Niekerk returned 3/20 to stifle them, and Thunder were all-out for 122 in 19.2 overs.

Lee later soaked it all in but said it was imperative that the Stars made the most of their soaring confidence.

“Yeah, it was an amazing day,” she said. “I’m just glad the girls took us over the line. I think the confidence is high. But we’ve to take it through to the next few games.”

The Stars will next take on Loughborough Lightning on Thursday.
