LIVE: India beat Bangladesh by 17 runs

Hello and welcome to the live coverage of match 5 of the Nidahas Trophy between India and Bangladesh at Colombo.

Live scorecard, India vs Bangladesh, Nidahas Trophy

Brilliant last two overs from Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj. India beat by Bangladesh by 17 runs to enter the Nidahas Trophy final.

Another costly No ball?

That's a no ball! Boy that was close, very very close. And what's more, it means Mushfiqur Rahim is still there, could well turn out to be a decisive moment in the game. Waist high full toss from Siraj, Mushfiqur gets a top edge and Siraj takes a simple return catch but the height was the factor. He could well have run Mushfiqur out had he kept his calm there, but that wasn't to be. Thriller alert!

Consecutive half-centuries for Mushfiqur

Thakur strikes

Just what the doctored ordered for India, it's Shardul Thakur who provides the all important wicket. The pressure was moutning and something had to give, Sabir perishes. A good length ball, not the knuckle one mind you, doesn't bounce much, goes underneath the heaving bat of Sabir to crash into the stumps.

Exciting finish ahead

If this pertnership between Mushfiqur and Sabir carries on for any longer, we are in for a nail biter. Bangladesh need 61 runs in the last 5 overs. One simply cannot count rule them out till the time Mushfiqur is there, the memories of the Cobra dance is still fresh.

Mahmudullah departs

Mahmudullah holes out at deep mid-wicket, a body blow to Bangladesh and it's that man Yuzvendra Chahal. Didn't get it anywhere near the bat, the ball reached him quicker than he expected it to, a simple catch to Rahul at deep id-wicket. Bangladesh sink deeper, four down now for 61.

Three for Sundar

Another one for Sundar

Birlliant from the young off-spinner, he continues to impress. You miss, I hit and boy isn't Sundar delighted. Soumya Sarkar attempts a wild heave but he was far from making any sort of contact, the ball crashes onto his stumps. Sundar picks up his second wicket, he's fast becoming a new ball option for India.

19 off Shardul's first over

It's still better that the 27 runs Shardul Thakur conceeded in the first T20I against Sri Lanka - this one leaks 19. Tamim Iqbal takes the young Mumbaicar to the cleaners, hitting him for three fours and a six. The Bangladesh chase in well on course. BAN 32/1 after 3.

Sundar strikes

Sundar picks up a wicket in his first over. 50th T20 stumping for Dinesh Karthik. Das gives the charge again and this time the bowler darts it wide outside off. Das can't get to it and this allows the keeper to take the bails off with ease.

India end up with 176

That's out! Rohit Sharma is run out for 89. Good last over from Rubel Hasan means India failed to reach the 180-run mark but they end up with a very very good total of 176 for 3 on a sluggish track.

Raina misses fifty

35 runs in 2 overs

Three sixes off that Abu Haider over - two from Rohit, one from Raina. The seasoned campaigners have started to accelerate in grand style. The last two overs have produced 35 runs for India. Ominous signs for Bangladesh with still 2 overs to go, India look for 180.

The HITman gets to 50!

BOWLED

GONE! Rubel Hasan provides the breakthrough, the game was meandering along for some time now and Rubel breaks the harmony, uproots Dhawan's (35) middle stick. The left-hander missed the line to be honest. But full marks to the bowller for keeping it full and straight. Bangladesh have struck but India have a strong platform to launch into a no holds barred attack.

Best powerplay for India

SHOT! Straight down the ground for a boundary, nice way to end the powerplay for Dhawan and India - this is their best start in the Nidahas Trophy. Both Rohit and Dhawan have ensured smooth sailing. IND 49/0 after 6 overs.

That's more like it

Down on one knee, clears the front leg and BANG! Away she goes deep into the stands. Rohit Sharma is finally finding his touch, a huge six over deep mid-wicket off the off-spinner Miraz.

Dhawan breaks the shackles

What a shot! It's been that kind of a year so far for Shikhar Dhawan, runs are flowing off his bat when the others are finding it difficult. Dances down the track to Mustafizur, picks up the slower one and deposits the ball straight back past the bowler's head with a lovely extension of the arms - SIX! IND: 27/0 after 4 overs.

Cautious start for Rohit and India

Like mentioned in the toss, Rohit is taking his time today. His strike rate bears testimony to the fact. The Indian captain is batting on 7 off 12 balls and he has faced all the deliveries in the first two overs. We all know what happens when Rohit takes his time, fingers crossed.

Well, not much time left before we found out the reality, five minutes to gor for the live action.

Interseting outcome at the toss, both captains thinking differently and in the end they have got what they wanted. Mahmudullah justified his decision to bowl first by saying the pitch is dry and it will help his spinners later on, while Rohit felt the wicket would not change much and he would have preferred to bat first.

IND XI: R Sharma (c), Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina, Manish Pandey, Lokesh Rahul, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Washington Sundar Vijay Shankar, Shardul Thakur, Mohammad Siraj, Y Chahal

BAN XI: Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Liton Das, Mushfiqur Rahim(w), Mahmudullah(c), Sabbir Rahman, Mehidy Hasan, Rubel Hossain, Abu Hider Rony, Mustafizur Rahman, Nazmul Islam

Team News: Mohammad Siraj comes in place of Jaydev Unadkat. For Bangladesh Taskin Ahmed makes way for Abu Haider.

Toss: Bangladesh wins the toss and opts to bowl first.

PITCH REPORT: Brett Lee says there is no light grass on the surface. Informs there are a couple of cracks which have started to open up in the good length area. Further adds it is a lot drier and mentions it is the third time the wicket has been used. Reckons there will be something for the fast bowlers and later on, there will be something for the spinners. He feels 170-180 will be a good score on this wicket.

Hello and welcome to the live coverage of match 5 of the Nidahas Trophy between India and Bangladesh at Colombo.

The preview

Buoyant after registering a six-wicket victory over Sri Lanka, a confident Rohit Sharma-led India would aim to seal a final berth in the Nidahas Trophy Twenty20 tri-series when they face a tricky Bangladesh at the R. Premadasa Stadium here on Wednesday.

By no means would Bangladesh be pushovers in the shortest format of the game as well after their record 215-run chase against Sri Lanka and a win against India will bolster their chances of making it to Sunday's final.

India lost to Sri Lanka unexpectedly in the tournament opener but came back strongly to beat both Bangladesh and the hosts consecutively.

A defeat may not be end of the road for India as it will then depend on the outcome of the final game between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The net run-rate will also be a factor.

Skipper Rohit Sharma has been out of form and the Mumbai batsman would like to hit the purple patch as soon as possible. Rohit's sudden slump does not augur well for the team as well as his IPL franchise Mumbai Indians.

India have not got good starts in the tournament despite Shikhar Dhawan's (153) blazing form as Rohit has been dismissed cheaply in all the matches.

Suresh Raina has got his 20s while Manish Pandey has remained steady in the middle-order. Dinesh Karthik's 39 off 25 balls against Sri Lanka has ensured that Rishabh Pant will continue to warm the dug-out.

Coming to Bangladesh, in their first meeting India did well to restrict them to 139 but in their very next match, the likes of Tamim Iqbal, Liton Das, Mushfiqur Rahim hammered the Sri Lankan attack into submission chasing down the highest-ever target on Sri Lankan soil.

India's bowling has seen IPL's costliest domestic buy Jaydev Unadkat (Rs 11.5 crore) going for runs in all three matches.

Thakur has done well in the last two games while Vijay Shankar has also been steady with his variations.

In-form wrist spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has been expensive in both games against Sri Lanka while off-spinner Washington Sundar has shone opening the bowling in the Powerplay overs in every game.

Squads:
India: Rohit Sharma (captain), Shikhar Dhawan (vice-captain), Lokesh Rahul, Suresh Raina, Manish Pandey, Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Deepak Hooda, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Vijay Shankar, Shardul Thakur, Jaydev Unadkat, Mohammad Siraj and Rishabh Pant.

Bangladesh: Mahmudullah (captain), Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Imrul Kayes, Mushfiqur Rahim (wicket-keeper), Sabbir Rahman, Mustafizur Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Abu Hider, Abu Jayed, Ariful Haque, Nazmul Islam, Nurul Hasan, Mehidy Hasan, Liton Das.
