Kumble re-applies for India head coach with backing of CoA
New Delhi: A thorough professional Anil Kumble has formally re-applied for Team India’s head coach despite BCCI providing him an automatic entry in to the list of nominees.
Kumble was a direct entry for the high profile job which already includes Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Richard Pybus, Lanchand Rajput and Dodda Ganesh. Craig McDermott had also applied but BCCI claimed his documents did not reach on time and hence he won’t be considered.
Kumble has decided to send his application so that he can go through the same process as everyone else before turning up for the interview in front of the three-member cricket advisory committee.
The former India leggie has also drafted a detailed one-year roadmap for Team India.
Another source confirms that Anil Kumble in all probability will get support from COA led by Vinod Rai.
This comes at a time when reports are circulating about Kumble’s unwillingness to continue as Team India head coach after BCCI decided against giving him an automatic extension.
Kumble’s term commences as soon as the Champions Trophy ends. Kohli and some other Indian cricketers were reportedly miffed with Kumble’s strict way of handling things in the Indian camp. Kohli however clarified that there are no issues and the reports are nothing but rumours.
The technical committee comprising of Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman is expected to name the new India coach at the end of Champions Trophy.
India on the other hand will face Sri Lanka in their next group league match after thrashing Pakistan by 124 runs via D/L method.
