Abu Dhabi: Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma on Wednesday achieved a personal milestone in his glittering IPL career as he became the leading run-scorer against Kolkata Knight Riders in the history of the cash-rich T20 league. The prolific run-scorer and MI batting lynchpin achieved the feat during the Mumbai Indians game against KKR which is currently being played at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Heading into the game, Rohit was five runs behind SRH opener David Warner with 824 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders and stood at the second spot in the all-time run scorers against defending champs Mumbai.
When Sharma scored six runs opening the batting for MI, he overtook the swashbuckling Australian opener, Warner, to become the leading run-scorer against KKR.
Rohit has always enjoyed playing against KKR in the IPL and seems to have had a liking to the KKR bowling amassing 830 runs in 26 innings against the 2-time champions. He has scored one century and 2 fifties against KKR in his IPL career.
Rohit is second on the list of run-getters list against Kolkata Knight Riders across T20 competitions. Chennai Super Kings' batting great Suresh Raina leads the list with 955 runs.
Mumbai Indians were put to bat first at Abu Dhabi in the IPL 2020 match against Kolkata on Wednesday after KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik won the toss and chose to field first.
Mumbai Indians got off to a flying start with Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav dealing in boundaries during the powerplay in the first six overs. Despite losing opener Quinton De Kock early, Rohit and Yadav counter-attacked and took on the KKR seamers by hitting them to all parts of the ground.
Mumbai had posted 95-1 in the first ten overs of their innings when this report was filed.
