After a long delay of almost six months amid the Covid-19 pandemic,  the thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will get underway with defending champions Mumbai Indians taking on Chennai Super Kings in a blockbuster opening clash at Abu Dhabi.


Delhi Capital coach Ricky Ponting has heaped praises on Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma terming him as the 'Dangerman' for the defending champions the 13th season of the tournament in the UAE. The Australian great further went onto add that the belligerent Indian opener is one of the premier T20 batsmen in the world.

Ponting hailed Rohit 'Hitman' Sharma's superlative track record in the shorter format of the game both at the international stage and in the IPL and signled him out as the players to watch out for when he when he was asked to name Mumbai Indians’ most dangerous player by Cricket Australia.

Mumbai Indians have enjoyed a stellar spell of success under the leadership of Rohit Sharma when he took over the mantle of captaincy in 2013.The franchise has been the most successful team in IPL history, winning four titles in its past seven seasons and Rohit has spearheaded his sides batting efforts in most of those seasons

Ponting said Rohit is at the best phase of his career and it’s pretty hard to go past him. “He’s probably in his career-best form right now, it’s pretty hard to go past him,” he added.

Earlier, Rohit Sharma had lauded Ricky Ponting during his association with Mumbai Indians as both a player and later as a coach. The Mumbai Indians skipper had spoken highly of his understanding and bringing out the best from a player.
