Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were inflicted a massive 10-wicket defeat by defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) at Sharjah Cricket Stadium and knocked out of the thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League being held in United Arab Emirates.


CSK suffered their worst ever defeat in the 10-season old in the IPL were completely outplayed by 4-time champions Mumbai Indians in all facets of the IPL 2020 game played at Sharjah.

CSK's dismal performance with the bat was largely accountable for their eight defeat of the season in 11 league matches. Batting first, Dhoni and Co were restricted to just 114-9 in their 20 overs, the second lowest total in the ongoing season of the IPL.

MI chased down a below-par 115 run target with all 10 wickets in the bank to hand the 3-time champions a trouncing at Sharjah.

CSK got off to a horrendous start losing their entire top order with five of their frontline batsmen falling inside the 6-over powerplay.


It was for the very first time in IPL history the CSK lost five wickets inside powerplay after their top order was sent back to the pavilion by the MI seamers Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah.

Chennai were left reeling at the end of the powerplay at 24 for 5. CSK registered an unwanted record to have lost five wickets inside the powerplays and joined the now defunct Kochi Tuskers Kerala as the second team to have registered such a feat.

Kochi Tuskers had lost six wickets against the Deccan Chargers in 2012.
