Four-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians, without their regular skipper Rohit Sharma in the playing XI, played like a well-oiled machine to defeat already-struggling Chennai Super Kings by 10 wickets on Friday at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. MI openers Quinton De Kock and Ishan Kishan stitched a solid 116-run partnership to help their team attain a super win over Chennai inside 13 overs to reclaim top position in the IPL 2020 points table.
MI, under Kieron Pollard's captaincy won the toss and opted to bowl first. Trent Boult was the star for Mumbai Indians with 4 wickets for 18 runs while Jasprit Bumrah, and Rahul Chahar bagged 2 wickets each to restrict their opponents to a paltry 114/9 in their allotted 20 overs. For Chennai, Sam Curran (47-ball 52) starred with the bat as the lone spark in an otherwise very average and disappointing batting performance from the yellow army.
Dhoni-led Chennai will now need to win their next three matches and hope that results from the other teams go their way so that they get to qualify for the IPL 2020 playoffs.
