Indian Premier League 2024: The Indian Premier League will reportedly start from March 22. In the latest set of rumours and developments in concern with the cash-rich league, Jagran reported the unofficial date on January 10, Wednesday.
Chennai Super Kings, who won their fifth IPL title in 2023, will be walking into the tournament as one of the favourites after having a near-perfect day at the IPL 2024 Auction on December 19, 2023, where they managed to grab ODI World Cup starlet, the New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra, alongside his compatriot Daryl Mitchell. They also acquired the power hitting Indian sensation in Sameer Rizvi and managed to bring back their veteran hero Shardul Thakur after the latter was released by the Kolkata Knight Riders on the bank of dismal bowling performances.
The IPL 2024 will mark its 17th season, ever since its inception in 2008. The toughest franchise league in the world is home to all the megastars of the cricketing world and offers the cricket fans a two-month carnival filled with loads and loads of entertainment, world-class display of current talent and hidden gems.
However, there is a concern for the local fans of India as this edition of IPL will clash with the General Elections in the country and on the previous occasions, the venue has had been shifted abroad, apart from the 2019 edition of the IPL. As reported by Jagran, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah and the Government of India Auhtorities are working hard on a solution to conduct the IPL in India and making sure that the security department for either of the mega events doesn't take a hit.
Alongside Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders are the only teams to lift the coveted trophy on more than one occasion, with Mumbai doing it five times (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020) and Kolkata doing it two times (2012, 2014).
