To easily summarize the Day 1's play: Session one and three belonged to India and the second session was totally dominated by West Indies bowlers. The opening session saw India getting off to a great start as both openers, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, scored fifties -- their 139-run partnership for 1st wicket is now the third highest opening partnership for visiting pairs at Port of Spain, Trinidad.

West Indies bowlers staged a solid comeback by taking quick wickets in the second session. After Tea break, Virat Kohli was joined by all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja with India four down. The duo stitched a fine stand at a decent run-rate, getting some crucial boundaries in between.

Virat Kohli, the fifth highest run-getter in international cricket, is on the brink of scoring a historic ton and will go into day two just 14 runs shy of his first hundred in an overseas Test since December 2018. Jadeja too looks solid as ever. Some exquisite strokes from Kohli and Jadeja in the final session ensured India collected 106 runs in 33.2 overs, reach 288 for four at Stumps on Day 1.
