Shardul Thakur's groin strain to keep him out of action on day 1 of Hyderabad Test

Shardul Thakur has gone for scans. He will not take the field today

Shardul Thakur suffered a groin strain soon after he made his Test debut for India against West Indies on Friday in Hyderabad. The 26-year-old had to leave the field after bowling only 10 deliveries in the first session.

Shardul faced the blow after delivering the fourth ball of the fourth over which was guided past backward point by opener Kieran Powell. The speedster was then seen hobbling in pain.

Team physio Patrick Farhat entered the field to check upon Shardul who then left after a couple of minutes of discussion with captain Virat Kohli. The rest two balls were bowled by R Ashwin to complete the over.

Update on Shardul's condition:

As stated by the BCCI, Shardul Thakur has gone for scans. He will not take the field today. An update on his participation for the rest of the Test will be taken after looking at the scans and after being assessed by the team management.

It has been for the second time that the young pacer from Mumbai suffered an injury during a series. He was recently sent home from the Asia Cup after he sustained a hip injury after India’s first game against Hong Kong.

Fortunately, he recovered and was back in action during Vijay Hazare Trophy league phase for Mumbai.

After remaining a backup pacer for more than two years, he replaced Mohammed Shami in the second Test that started on Friday. He was first picked in the Test squad for West Indies Tests in 2016. He was also a part of the Indian squad during the five-Test series in England but did not play a single game.
