India vs Bangladesh second Test at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur has taken a dramatic turn on Day 4. While the match seemed to be heading towards a lifeless draw with only 35 overs bowled on the opening day of the second Test and the second and the third days being called off without a ball bowled, Rohit Sharma & Co. seemed to have other plans when the play did begin on a bright and sunny day on Monday (September 30).
Not only did the hosts first bowl Bangladesh out for 233 in the first innings with Jasprit Bumrah emerging as the pick of the bowlers but the hosts put on a record-shattering effort with the bat to declare their first innings at 285/9 in 34.4 overs, their lowest-ever declaration total in the first innings. There was no doubt in the team's mind that they wanted to go for a win with captain Rohit Sharma, retired from T20Is, smashing three successive sixes off his first three balls.
It was no surprise that all others followed suit with Yashasvi Jaiswal (72 off 51, KL Rahul (68 off 43) and Virat Kohli (47 off 35), chipping in with useful contributions to give India a 52-run lead as they opted to declare, wanting to give their bowlers enough time to bowl Bangladesh out again and then chase down the target. Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz scalped four wickets apiece. While Shakib, who could be playing his final Test, got the better of Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin, Miraz saw the back of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Akash Deep. One wicket fell to Hasan Mahmud who dismissed Jaiswal.
