Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has added yet another feather to his cap after surpassing Mahendra Singh Dhoni's record for most wins by an India captain in the shortest format of the game in a year. Rohit achieved this feat after team India defeated South Africa by eight wickets in the opening T20I in Thiruvananthapuram. With this win, the right-handed opening batsman now has 16 wins as India's captain in 2022 while Dhoni had registered 15 wins in 2016.

India has played 21 T20I matches this year and has won 16 under the leadership of Rohit Sharma.

Interestingly, Rohit has won every series where he has donned the Indian jersey as the captain, whether bilateral, trilateral, or multilateral. But this streak ended when India lost the Asia Cup 2022. After an eight-wicket win on Wednesday, Rohit clinched his 16th T20I win this year as Indian skipper.

Talking about the first T20 against South Africa, Deepak Chahar and Arshdeep Singh crushed the Proteas' top order and restricted them to 106 runs. In reply to that, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav chased down the total and led India to a comfortable win.

Also, the swashbuckling Indian batsman Suryakumar Yadav has surpassed Shikhar Dhawan's record for most T20I runs in a calendar year. He achieved this feat during the first match against South Africa on Wednesday in Thiruvananthapuram.  To get past Dhawan’s record, Surya just needed eight runs before the series against the Proteas. He pulled off this milestone in style as he smashed a six against Anrich Nortje on Wednesday.
