The swashbuckling Indian batsman Suryakumar Yadav has surpassed Shikhar Dhawan's record for most T20I runs in a calendar year. He achieved this feat during the first match against South Africa on Wednesday in Thiruvananthapuram.

To get past Dhawan’s record, Surya just needed eight runs before the series against the Proteas. He pulled off this milestone in style as he smashed a six against Anrich Nortje on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old batter is unstoppable ever since he made his debut for the Indian cricket team. He has been scoring tons of runs in the Indian Premier League and as a result, he got a chance in the Indian team.  In the shortest format of the game, he is the highest run-getter in 2022. He has donned the Blue jersey in 20 matches and amassed 682 runs at a wholesome average of 37.88. Surya has one century and four half-centuries in his kitty.

Known as India's Mr 360, he has got all the shots in his armory because of his flawless batting. The cricketing fraternity has started comparing him to the Australian cricketer Michael Bevan and South African batsman AB De Villiers.

Talking about the first T20 against South Africa, Deepak Chahar and Arshdeep Singh crushed the Proteas' top order and restricted them to 106 runs. In reply to that, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav chased down the total and led India to a comfortable win.

Suryakumar Yadav also played a blinder in the third T20 against Australia on Sunday as the right-hander scored a terrific 36-ball 69 runs against the mighty Australians. When India was chasing, skipper Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul were both dismissed early but Suryakumar Yadav alongside Virat Kohli saved the team and chased down the total of 187.
