The final match of New Zealand's white-ball tour of India will get underway at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. After a clean sweep in the ODI series, the hosts lost the first match of the T20I series before somehow managing to get past New Zealand's total of 99 in the second T20I in Lucknow on a "shocker" of a pitch. The series stands levelled at 1-1 but the Black Caps will believe they are in with a chance to clinch a rare series win on Indian soil.
To put things into perspective, as many as 55 bilateral series have been played across all formats in the last 10 years and India have come out on top in 47 of them. Only Australia and South Africa are the two teams in world cricket that can boast of having beaten India in a series in India during this time period. Will the Kiwis also get that bragging rights?
While that could be a motivation enough, the Kiwis will also want to have a closer look at the conditions on offer as some of these surface and in all probability the one in Ahmedabad, will surely host a knockout match of the 50-overs World Cup later this year.
Heading into the game, both teams would have a few areas which they would like to work upon. While Ishan Kishan has been a curious case for India, New Zealand would want more out of somebody like a Finn Allen, having said that the wickets have been under the scanner in the both the matches so far.
