In the absence of Jos Buttler, due to personal reasons, England has decided to name Moeen Ali as their vice-captain for the Test match against India at the Oval. It was reported yesterday by Telegraph, UK that Rory Burns might be named the new vice-captain, but instead, Moeen Ali was made the deputy to Joe Root.
Ali has played 63 Test matches for England where he made 2869 runs and took 193 wickets. Ali, who debuted in 2014 rose to greatness due to his constant all-around performances. Moeen Ali had a great series in 2017 against South Africa where he picked more than 20 wickets and also scored more than 200 runs.
Moeen Ali is a 34-year-old cricketer playing in the England Test team. This development comes as Buttler has opted not to play in the upcoming series due to the birth of his second child. Buttler and his wife, Louise are expecting a second child soon.
The 4th Test match between India and England will be played at the Oval, London on Thursday, 2 September 2021. So far, the Test series lies in balance at 1-1.
