ICC Code Of Conduct: Shubman Gill Fined 15 Percent Match Fee For 'Public Criticism' During WTC Final

Australia has been asked to pay 80 percent of their match fee for maintaining slow over-rates in the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 Final at The Oval.

Just after losing the WTC final 2023 against Australia, team India suffered yet another blow as India's star batter Shubman Gill has been fined 15 percent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. The incident transpired when the umpire declared Shubman Gill out after he was caught in the slips by Cameron Green and then the Punjab-based batter took to his Twitter and Instagram handles to show disappointment.  As a result, Gill has been imposed a total of 115 percent of the match fee.

"India's Shubman Gill will face a sanction for appearing to criticize the decision to give him out on the fourth day of the Test, breaching article 2.7 which relates to public criticism or inappropriate comment in relation to an incident occurring in an international match. The young opener was fined a further 15 percent of his match fee," the statement read.

Talking about the incident, Gill ended up edging a delivery off Scott Boland to the third slip where Green dived a bit and finished the catch. Australian team members started celebrating while Gill remained there in the middle and the umpire referred to it as the third umpire, Richard Kettleborough who finally declared him out after evaluating from different angles.

Gill was unhappy with the decision while walking back to the pavilion and skipper Rohit Sharma also was spotted questioning the umpire about his decision.
