Indian skipper Virat Kohli was delighted after the Indian team defeated New Zealand by seven wickets to take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match One-Day International series.
Half-centuries from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli and stellar performance with the ball from Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya helped India register an ODI series win in New Zealand after 10 years.
The Indian skipper praised his team for attaining an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series and also the young talent Shubhman Gill, who earned a maiden call-up for the ongoing ODI series against New Zealand.
Gill is expected to play once Kohli goes on his break from the fourth ODI.
“Some day someone has to take your place and that’s how it goes. Shubman is a very exciting talent and I saw him bat in the nets and I was like wow I was not even ten percent of that when I was 19,” Kohli said.
Talking about the confidence that youngsters carry, Kohli said that it was great for the Indian cricket that standards keep on increasing so that the new boys joining the team can make those impact performances straightaway.
“That’s the confidence that they carry and it’s great for Indian cricket, the standard keeps going up and the guys coming in can make those impact performances straightaway. And, we are more than happy to give them chances and provide them the space to grow,” Kohli signed off.
