Former Kiwi Coach Mike Hesson Set to Apply For India's Head Coach Job: Report

Hesson is regarded as one of the most successful coaches in the history of New Zealand cricket and played an instrumental role in guiding the Black Caps to the final of ICC World Cup 2015.

Mike Hesson, the former New Zealand coach, is set to apply for the Indian team's head coach job after the BCCI invited applications for the aforementioned post The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited fresh applications for the position of the head coach and support staff, and as per a report in CricketNext, Hesson has shown his keenness in applying for one of international cricket's most prized jobs. The New Zealander is regarded as one of the most successful coaches in the history of New Zealand cricket and played an instrumental role in guiding the Black Caps to the final of ICC World Cup 2015. Hesson was the head coach of New Zealand for a period of six years before quitting the job in 2018. The Kiwi returned to coaching this year and is currently working as the coach of Indian Premier League (IPL) outfit Kings XI Punjab. However, Hesson will have to submit an affidavit to clear him of potential ‘conflict of interest’. Something similar happened with former South African cricketer Gary Kirsten, who had applied for the women coach’s job earlier in 2019. However, despite being Cricket Advisory Committee’s (CAC) first choice, Kirsten was unable to accept the role as he failed to fulfill the terms of the affidavit. “Hesson is very much interested in applying for the head coach’s position. Hesson and his agent need to be convinced about the conditions of the job as laid down by the BCCI. But chances are that they will be sending their application in soon,” a source was quoted as saying in a report. At this point in time, Hesson  is studying the conditions laid down by BCCI for the India head coach role. Jonty Rhodes has applied for the role of fielding coach while incumbent head coach Ravi Shastri has gained an automatic entry into the candidates' list.
