Eng vs Pak 1st Test, Day 2: Shan Masood's Unbeaten 151 Helps Pakistan Reach 312/8 At Tea
Massod and Shadab Khan batted well to pass on the pressure to England by bringing up a solid stand and closing in on 300.
Pakistan's star opener Shan Masood showed great composure as he scored a gritty ton to propel Pakistan to 312/8 against England at Tea on Day 2 of the first Test being played at the Old Trafford on Thursday.
At Lunch, Shaan Masood was still batting on 77 not-out as he looked determined to help Pakistan get back into the game. Masood and Shadab Khan continued to battle against the lethal English bowling attack and picked a few quick runs to help their squad get past the 200-run mark.
Skipper Root quickly introduced two spinners into the attack from both ends to get the new ball quickly so that the fast bowlers could quickly run through the tail.
Soon after, opener Massod brought up his hard-fought hundred and ensured that the runs continue to flow for Pakistan after Lunch. The star opener, who attained his fourth Test ton, also became the first Pakistan opener to score a Test century in England since Saeed Anwar in 1996.
Massod and Shadab Khan batted well to pass on the pressure to England by bringing up a solid stand and closing in on 300. All good things must come to an end and so did the 105-run stand between Khan and Masood for the sixth wicket that was broken by Dom Bess.
All-rounder Shadab Khan literally threw away his wicket for 45, just fell short of his fifty as he mistimes Bess' delivery to give skipper Root catching practice at mid-on.
Another major jolt was provided to Pakistan by all-rounder Jofra Archer. The paceman picked back-to-back two wickets -- Yasir Shah (5) and Mohammad Abbas -- in successive deliveries. Yasir Shah somehow survived the next delivery by Archer to deny him a hat-trick.
Masood smashed a big six to help Pakistan get past 300 and reach 312/8 at Tea.
