Kohli scores 4000 Test runs as Indian captain to surpass MS Dhoni

.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been the lone warrior so far in the ongoing Test series against England. He is the only man who remained consistent and patient amid the Indian batting collapse in almost all the games. Though India lost the 4th Test in Southampton by 60 runs, Kohli has added yet another feather in his cap.

Kohli smashed the 19th fifty of his career in whites while batting alongside Ajinkya Rahane in the fourth innings of the fourth test. With this half-century, he also became the first Indian to score 4000 runs as captain in Tests.

With these stats, Kohli has surpassed former skipper, MS Dhoni who led India in 60 Tests, scored 3454 runs, including five centuries and 24 half-centuries under his belt. Legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar now falls 3rd on this list. He has 3449 runs as Test captain.

Virat Kohli has also piled up 1500 runs against England which makes him the 6th Indian cricket to do so. Sachin Tendulkar tops the list with 2535 runs, followed by Sunil Gavaskar (2483), Rahul Dravid (1950), Gundappa Viswanath (1880) and Dilip Vengsarkar (1589).

The 29-year-old has amassed 544 runs in this series so far, at an average of 68.00, including 2 centuries and three half-centuries to reach the landmark.

Kohli also became country's highest run-getting Test skipper overseas. The record was previously held by former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly, who has 1693 runs to his name.

India has been going through a rough patch in the current Test series against England. They managed to make a comeback in Nottingham after losing first two matches but ultimately lost the series 3-1 after surrendering the fourth Test in Southampton.

The final match of the series is scheduled to begin from September 7 at the Kia Oval, London.
