Amid Dhoni's Retirement Speculations, Sehwag & Patil Recall BCCI's Indifferent Treatment To Them
Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag and ex-chairman of selectors, Sandeep Patil had their say on Dhoni's retirement
‘When will Mahendra Singh Dhoni retire from cricket?’ – This particular question seems to have become a matter of national interest since India crashed out from the World Cup 2019. As soon as the men-in-blue ended their campaign, all the focus has been shifted to Dhoni’s career which is expected to end very soon.
Dhoni’s recent performances have raised several questions on his existence in the Indian dressing room. His slow batting rate and inability to finish matches have brought him under the scanner, making his selection in the upcoming tour of West Indies doubtful.
Meanwhile, former opener Virender Sehwag suggested that the decision should be left upon the man himself. During a chat with ABP News, the former Indian opener said, “Dhoni can be selected for the role wicket-keeper-batsman. If he performs well, he will be in the team.”
He also suggested that chief selector MSK Prasad should personally ask Dhoni about his future plan.
During this conversation, Sehwag recalled an incident when he was dropped from the team and then, chief selector, Sandeep Patil didn’t ask him about his next step.
As Patil was also the part of the discussion Panel, he countered Sehwag’s allegations stating that former board member Vikram Rathore was supposed to make the contact. And if he hadn’t, it was a huge mistake on his part.
The entire discussion made Patil dig out an incident from the past where he too faced BCCI’s ignorance and was ousted from the team despite scoring a century against Pakistan.
