Chelsea Sack Frank Lampard Mid-Season, Former PSG Manager Thomas Tuchel Takes Over

The London club made a statement on Monday announcing the departure of their manager and club legend, Frank Lampard. Lampard was ‘disappointed’ after the decision. The decision comes in as Lampard’s record was the worst for any Chelsea manager since 2003.

Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovic announced on Monday that Frank Lampard would no longer be the manager at Chelsea. He had a meeting with Lampard at 9 am on Monday. Lampard’s record remain dismal at an average of 1.67 points per-Premier League game. This is the lowest points-per game for any Chelsea manager since the arrival of Roman Abramovic in 2003. Thus, this move is not an unprecedented one.

A run of five defeats in their last eight Premier League matches has seen Chelsea slip to ninth, 11 points behind leaders Manchester United. His sacking comes 18 months after his arrival at the club. Frank Lampard, when arrived could not sign any players as Chelsea was facing a transfer ban. The club also lost some important players like Eden Hazard. Lampard’s signings also were not very promising. A 3-1 win against Luton could not save Lampard’s Chelsea career.

Roman Ibramovic said, “This was a very difficult decision for the Club, not least because I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and I have utmost respect for him. He is a man of great integrity and has the highest of work ethics. However, under current circumstances we believe it is best to change managers.”

The club released a detailed statement on its Instagram and other social media platforms.

Frank Lampard too came up with a statement after his sacking in which he expressed his disappointment.

How fruitful would be Thomas Tuchel’s appointment?

Tuchel is one of the most intricate manager personalities in European football. The 47-year-old is known as a political power player and control freak, but also as a strategic visionary and systematic thinker. Although, players like Silva who played for PSG under Tuchel were not very kind to the 47-year old. ‘Thomas Tuchel can get the best out of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz at Chelsea’ was said by Danny Murphy in a chat show.

Only time will tell if the decision to sack Frank Lampard mid-season made any sense?
