Chawrasia, Lahiri finish lowly 50 and 57 respectively in Olympic golf
Rio de Janeiro: Anirban Lahiri at last put up a good show as it was a case of too little too late.
The poster boy of Indian Golf scored 1-over 72 in his fourth and last round while his compatriot SSP Chawrasia carded error prone 7-over 78 in the Olympic Golf competition.
However, both Indians finished outside the top 49 places with Chawrasia ending tied 50th and Lahiri was placed at 57th.
Lahiri opened his final round from his overnight score of 9-over, and r after hitting a bogey on the 4th recovered well to card er his first birdies of the day on 5th and followed it with another on 8th.
He then fired three more birdies, before dropping shots on 12th and 13th.
Lahiri further dented his round with double bogey at 15th, but he managed two birdies on 16th and 18th. His final score across four rounds was 10-over 294.
Later on in the day, Chawrasia would tee off with an outside chance of bringing himself into medal contention, and he made the perfect start with a birdie on the 2nd. His round got worse when he dropped three shots on the 3rd.
He hit his second birdie of the day on the 8th. But then dropped five shots across four holes - including a double bogey on the 13th - to finish with 5-over 289.
Meanwhile, Siddikur Rahman of Bangladesh shot three birdies, but couldn't prevent seven bogeys, keeping him 58th, and one place below Lahiri, with a total of 11-over.
