UEFA Champions League: Manchester United's terrible season continues as they face the biggest setback of the year against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday. Atletico won 1-2 against United in two legs and ended the English team's Champions League journey in the round of 16.

Atletico Madrid has qualified for the quarter-final of the UCL after their win over Man Utd. Renan Lodi's 42nd-minute goal was enough for the Spanish side to make a difference. Despite pressing, attacking, and having the ball for a major part of the first half, United trailed at halftime.

Man United tried to take things in control but they failed to score as Oblak denied two or three genuine goal-scoring opportunities. Cristiano Ronaldo's hattrick over the weekend against Tottenham Hotspur might have increased United's hopes, but that was not the case against a good defensive side like Atletico.

5 Years, 0 Trophies

Seldom would anyone have thought in 2013 that Sir Alex Fergusson's Manchester United will not win the league after that. Not just the league, but with this UCL loss, Man United has failed to win a single trophy for five years.

The last time United won any trophy was the UEFA Europa League under Jose Mourinho in 2016-17.

Goal-keeper David De Gea was furious after the loss. He said, "There are too many years without any trophies, even without fighting for trophies."

"We need to be clear we want to achieve good things and fight for trophies. We don't just want to play for the top four and get out of the Champions League in the quarter-finals," he said as quoted by BBC.
