Romain Grosjean car crash: The race was stopped immediately after the life-threatening accident in the first-lap. Miraculously, Grosjean managed to get out of the wreck with suspected broken rib[s] and received medical treatment.

Formula One driver Romain Grosjean, who races under the French flag for the Haas F1 Team, survived one of the most terrific accidents at the Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday despite having a decent start. The French driver escaped from a huge crash after he veered off the track following some contact with Danil Kvyat's Alpha on turn three and his car ploughed into barriers, exploding on impact and split in two. Grosjean made his Formula One debut in 2009 and joined the US team Haas in 2016.

The race was stopped immediately after the life-threatening accident in the first-lap. Miraculously, Grosjean managed to get out of the wreck with suspected broken rib[s] and received medical treatment. Giving a major update regarding Romain's health, The Hass informed the fans and well-wishers on Twitter that he has has some minor burns on his hands and ankles but otherwise he is ok.

"He's doing okay, he had light burns on hands and ankles," Haas Team Principle Guenther Steiner told Sky Sports. "Obviously shaken and going through all checks necessary after an impact like this. He's conscious."

The Haas team added on Twitter: "As a precaution and for further medical evaluation Romain will be transported to hospital."

Here's the video...

"In 12 years I've never seen that much fire," Alan van der Merwe, the medical car driver, told Sky Sports. "Then Romain just started to get out of the car himself, which is pretty amazing after an incident like that.

"It just goes to show all the systems, the halo, the barriers, the seat belt, all worked as they should. Without even one of those things it could have been a very different outcome."

Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton wrote on Twitter: "I'm so grateful Romain is safe. Wow ... the risk we take is no joke, for those of you out there that forget that we put our life on the line for this sport and for what we love to do. Thankful to the FIA for the massive strides we've taken for Romain to walk away from that safely."

Hass team boss Gunther Steiner told Sky TV: "He's doing OK. He has light burns on hands and ankles. Obviously he is shaking and going through all the checks but he's fine.

"He seems to be OK and the rescue was very quick. The marshals and FIA did a great job. It was very scary.

"It looked like he went across the track with the front wheel and went full speed in the barrier."
