Kenin will now take on Polish teenager Iga Swiatek in the women's singles finals of the French Open on Saturday (Oct 10). Iga ended the fairytale run of Argentine qualifier Nadia Podoroska with a dominant 6-2,6-1 win in their semifinal encounter.
Iga Swiatek created history of sorts as she became the first Polish female tennis player to reach the final of the grand slam since Agnieszka Radwanska at Wimbledon 2012. The 19-year old Polish sensation is yet to drop a set in the slam en-route her giant killing run to the title clash.
Kenin had to fend off a stiff challenge from Kvitova as she saved four break points in the second set to hold her serve for a decisive 4-2 advantage. Earlier, the American had broken her opponent's serve in the fifth game to take the early break.
Kenin, who won the Australian Open earlier this year in January is chasing her maiden French Open title and her second Grand Slam title of the season.
