'I Fear Pollution': COP29 Photo Contest For Children Selects Winners From 3,000 Entries, Check Out Top 3
COP29: The 'Children's Eyes on Earth' photo contest, held alongside COP29, showcased young photographers' environmental perspectives. Over 3,000 entries from 50+ countries were received.
COP29 In Baku: The international photo contest, “Children’s Eyes on Earth”, organised for children and teenagers officially concluded last week, and has declared the winners. Held from October 11 to November 2, the contest gathered global attention and highlighted young photographers’ perspectives on climate change and environmental preservation.
Launched under the theme, “I Love Nature, I Fear Pollution”, the competition aimed to raise awareness about the beauty of nature and the challenges posed by pollution and climate change. In the lead-up to the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the contest drew nearly 3,000 entries from children up to the age of 18 across more than 50 countries.

Children’s Eyes On Earth: Winners In Two Age Categories
Initiated by renowned photographer Reza Deghati, the international photo contest for children is held under the patronage of Leyla Aliyeva, Head of the IDEA Public Union. The contest recognised 11 outstanding young photographers in two age categories.
In the 10-17 age group, the top three awards went to participants from the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Malta, respectively.
Honourable mentions were awarded to young photographers from Bangladesh, Iran, Ireland, and the UK, who also earned mentorship opportunities from Reza Deghati for their innovative and evocative submissions.
In the under-10 category, five finalists from Turkey, Switzerland, France, and Iran received special mentions from the jury and recognition from the Reza Visual Academy, Degati Agency, and Webistan.
Submissions came from an impressive list of countries, representing six continents. The countries included India, the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Norway, Denmark, Ireland, Austria, Hungary, Albania, Estonia, Malta, Turkey, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, Georgia, Russia, Ukraine, Australia, China, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, South Korea, Tajikistan, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Jordan, Algeria, Ecuador, Angola, Ethiopia, Nepal, Nigeria, South Africa, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Taiwan, Cameroon, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Mexico.
The photographs showcased the urgency of addressing environmental challenges, highlighted potential solutions, and conveyed a shared responsibility to protect the planet, the COP29 official website said in an update.
The winning photographs, alongside all entries, will be featured in an exclusive exhibition to be held at the Heydar Aliyev Center on November 18 in Baku, Azerbaijan, which is hosting the COP29 climate conference.
