Maa Mahagauri Swaroop

As a result of her intense penance, her complexion became dark. When Lord Shiva, pleased with her penance, came to grant her a boon, he washed Parvati’s body with the sacred water of the Ganga, removing the darkness. Tulsidas ji mentions Parvati's penance in his writings. Her fair complexion is often compared to the conch and the moon.

In her youth, the goddess wore white garments. She has four arms. The upper right hand is in a gesture of blessing in abhaya mudra, while the lower right hand holds a trident or trishul. The upper left hand holds a damaru, and the lower left hand is also in a blessing pose. Her vehicle is a bull which is also known as vrishabha.
