This year, Sharadiya Navratri’s Durga Ashtami begins on October 10, but Saptami will continue until 12:30 PM on that day. According to scriptures, if Saptami and Ashtami fall on the same day during Navratri, the fast for Durga Ashtami should not be observed on that day.

Maa Mahagauri Puja Significance

In Navratri, each day is dedicated to the worship of a specific goddess, offering special benefits from each. The eighth day of Sharadiya Navratri, known as Durga Ashtami, is dedicated to Maa Mahagauri. Due to her extremely fair complexion, this form of the Goddess is called Mahagauri.

Navratri Kanya Pujan Importance

Young girls are considered the embodiment of the Goddess. Without performing Kanya Pujan on Ashtami during Navratri, the benefits of worshipping the Goddess for nine days are not fully received. For Kanya Pujan, girls aged 2 to 10 are invited to the home, where they are worshipped and fed. Donations and gifts are given to them, which is believed to please the Goddess quickly.
