Water cannons were used by police to disperse private doctors opposing the Right to Health Bill as they attempted to march towards the Rajasthan assembly, where it was set to be debated on Tuesday.

The Right to Health bill, which is scheduled for debate and adoption in the Assembly, proposes to give state residents the right to free healthcare services from hospitals and clinics, including private institutions.

Doctors who own private clinics have protested the bill, arguing that it will increase bureaucratic interference over them.

Protesting doctors assembled around the statue circle were halted by police as they attempted to advance towards the Assembly complex.

When the doctors attempted to cross the barricades, police used water cannons and mild force to stop them.

The doctors chanted anti-state government slogans and urged that the bill be repealed.

Following a protest at the statue circle on Monday, a delegation of five doctors met with the health minister in the Assembly and urged that the bill be withdrawn.
