Paro: Paro is a tiny town located in Bhutan's Paro Valley which is the largest and most fertile valley in Bhutan, as well as the most historic one. It has 155 temples and monasteries dating back to the 14th century, as well as Bhutan's only international airport.  Paro has a stunning terrain and is studded with traditional cottages and paddy fields. The Tiger's Nest or Taktsang, one of Bhutan's most famous monasteries, is located atop a cliff in Paro. Apart from that, there are other sights worth visiting in Paro, ranging from monasteries to museums such as the Rinpung Dzong, the National Museum of Bhutan, and the Paro Weekend Market for shopaholics. Thimphu: Thimphu, the capital city of western central Bhutan, is known for its numerous Buddhist landmarks, high Himalayan terrain, rich culture, and religious settings. In Thimpu, you may take the Druk Path Trek up to Jili Dzong, enjoy cave murals at the 800-year-old Changangkha Lhakhang Temple, and buy kukri knives and traditional clothes at the Weekend Handicrafts Market.  Tashichho Dzong, Thimphu's large monastery, administration palace, and fortification, also has ancient Ta-dzong architecture and gold-leaf roofing. The National Memorial Chorten is a whitewashed monument with a gold spire dedicated to world peace. Thimphu's 51-meter-tall gold-plated Buddha Dordenma statue is another work of art. The valley, with its many slopes, is ideal for mountain biking and walking. Aside from that, the Po Chhu River is home to Bhutan's most popular adventure sport, river rafting.
