Magh Mela has started in Prayagraj from today, January 6, at the banks of the Triveni Sangam.  According to Hindu mythology, the beginning of the universe might be compared to the origin of Magh Mela. It  is a significant annual event that is mentioned in the Hindu epic Mahabharata, prominent Puranas, and ancient Hindu scriptures about a wide range of subjects, primarily about stories and other traditional lore. Magh Mela, also known as the Mini Kumbh Mela, is an annual celebration that is observed in the month of Magh. Hindu worshippers travel to the Triveni Sangam, the revered location of the confluence of the rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati, during the festival, where they perform rituals and immerse themselves in the sacred waters. Every year, the local government entities and the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department work together to make the necessary preparations for the pilgrims coming from all across the nation. Tents, medical facilities, a water and energy supply, transit options, and food booths are all set up on the location close to Triveni Sangam. Tens of thousands of worshippers spending days together in tents erected near to the riverbanks is amazing to observe. The 45 days that make up the fair are referred to as Kalpvas. These days are thought to be equal to the sum of the years in the four yugas namely- Satyug, Treta, Dwapar, and Kalyug. By diligently and religiously performing all the rites, followers of Kalpvas, sometimes referred to as Kalpvasis, can atone for crimes committed in a former life and break free from the cycle of rebirth and karma. The pilgrims (kalpvasis), who take the oath, stay on the banks of the Sangam in tents during this time, devoting themselves to religious activities and taking three chilly baths. The Kalpvas begins on the eleventh day of the Hindu month of Paush and lasts until the twelve day of the month of Magh. Even meals are only eaten once daily. (Image Source: PTI)

This fair on the banks of the Sangam is being held keeping in mind the vision of the upcoming Mahakumbh-2025. With a budget of Rs. 78 crore, the annual fair will witness a tent city with five pontoon bridges interlinking it, have 1000 km of metal chequered plate roads and 5,000 police and security personnel guarding it.
