Sikh Man Breaks His Own Record For World's Longest Beard

Sarwan earned the record title back in 2008, when his beard measured 7 ft 8 in (2.33 m) long, breaking the previous record of 5 ft 9 in (1.77 m) held by Birger Pellas of Sweden.

A Canadian Sikh created Guinness World Record of having the longest beard.  Hailing from Surrey, British Columbia, Sarwan Singh broke his own record to achieve this feat. Now his  his beard measures about 8 feet and 3 inches (2.54 m), according to the records keeping company.

He first earned the record title back in 2008, when his beard measured 7 ft 8 inches (2.33 m) long, breaking the previous record of 5 ft 9 inches (1.77 m) held by Birger Pellas of Sweden. In 2010, Sarwan again got his  beard measured on the set of Lo Show dei Record in Rome, Italy, and this time it measured 8 ft 2.5 inches (2.495 m).

But when re-measured on 15 October 2022, it had grown even longer. It's a little greyer these days, but more fabulous than ever, according to GWR.

The key guidelines for the record are that the hair is natural and that it is measured wet so the curls do not affect the length of the measurement.

Sarwan considers his beard to be a gift from God and has never trimmed his beard since the age of 17.

“From the early age of 17 since the beard started growing in, I’ve kept it the same way." Sarwan Singh said to the records keeping company.

“It’s seen as one of the most important aspects of being a Sikh. It is given to us by God and should be kept the way it is," he added.

The uncut hair is one of the five compulsory articles of faith for a baptised Sikh who is easily identified by his full-length beard. 

Though, maintaining such a long beard may look like a hard work, Sarwan says he loves his beard and has never had any difficulties with its upkeep.
