New Delhi: The news of property disputes between parents and children is often heard, but a unique case has come to the fore in Uttarakhand. In Haridwar, an elderly couple has demanded grandchildren from their daughter-in-law and son, if they cannot fulfill this, then they have demanded a total of 5 crores as compensation. The couple has filed a suit in the district court of Haridwar. Its next hearing is to be held on May 17. The person suing Sanjeev Ranjan Prasad was once an officer in BHEL and has now retired.

After retirement, he is living in a housing society with his wife Sadhna Prasad. Prasad's lawyer Arvind Kumar Srivastava, narrating the whole matter, said that both of them had married their only son Shrey Sagar with Noida's Shubhangi Sinha in the year 2016. “I gave my son all my money, got him trained in America. I don’t have any money now. We have taken a loan from the bank to build a home. We are troubled financially and personally. We have demanded Rs 2.5 cr each from both my son and daughter-in-law in our petition," said Prasad while explaining his plight of facing financial difficulties and loans after investing in his son’s education.

Prasad’s lawyer, Advocate AK Srivastava opined that the case shows the truth about the society. “This case portrays the truth of society. We invest in our children and make them capable of working in good firms. Children owe their parents basic financial care. The parents have demanded either a grandchild within a year or compensation of Rs 5 crores."

The elderly husband and wife have filed a petition in the court saying that even after 6 years of marriage, their sons and daughters-in-law are not producing children. Because of this both of them have to go through a lot of mental torture.
