Buffalo Swallows 'Mangalsutra' Worth Rs 1.5 Lakh, Here's How It Was Retrieved
The operation on the buffalo was carried out by veterinary doctor for about 2 hours to retrieve the jewellery.
In a peculiar turn of event, a buffalo accidentally swallowed a woman's 25g gold 'mangalsutra' in Maharashtra's Washim district. The jewellery was valued at approximately Rs 1.5 lakh. As soon as the family realised that the buffalo had swallowed the 'mangalsutra', it was taken to a hospital for a surgery in order to retrieve the gold jewellery.
A video of the incident was shared on X, formerly Twitter, by news agency ANI with the caption, "An incident of buffalo eating gold mangalsutra has come to light in a village in Washim district. 25 grams of Mangalsutra was taken out through the operation."
The operation on the buffalo was carried out by veterinary doctor Balasaheb Kaundane, who while speaking to the news agency said, "The buffalo was checked by a metal detector, that revealed some metal in the buffalo's stomach. Thereafter an operation was conducted that lasted for 2 hours, in which 60-65 stitches were required."
He also urged people to be careful while giving fodder to animals to avoid such incidents.
In the video, the woman is seen holding the necklace and standing close to the buffalo that had accidently swallowed it and was operated in order to retrieve the 'mangalsutra'.

Reportedly, the woman, Geeta cleaned some fodder and kept it in a bowl to feed the animal later, and went for a bath. She removed the jewellery from her neck and kept it in the bowl. But after she returned, she forgot that the necklace was kept in the bowl that had soya bean husks and peanut peels and fed it to the Buffalo. After a few hours she realised that her necklace had gone missing, and after recollecting her thoughts, she remembered that she had placed the jewellery in the fodder. She immediately informed her husband, who took the buffalo to the hospital where it was operated.
