Artists Make 'Rudra Veena' Weighing 5 Tons From Scrap In Bhopal — See Pics

"We wanted to work on an Indian theme so that our new generation can know more about Indian culture," said the artisan.

A group of artisans in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal have made "Rudra Veena" by using scraps and trash. The veena that weighs 5 tons  is 28 feet long, 10 feet broad and 12 feet tall. The 15-member group took around six months to build the veena for a cost of Rs 10 lakh, reported news agency ANI.

According to the group of artisans, it is the world's biggest Rudra Veena ever made. The instrument has been constructed from discarded vehicle parts like wire, chains, gears and ball bearings, reported the news agency.

"The veena has been prepared on the theme of 'Kabaad Se Kanchan'. A total of 15 artists were engaged in designing, collecting scraps and then making it for six months and finally the biggest veena made up from trash got ready," said one of the artists, Pawan Deshpandey to ANI.

"We wanted to work on an Indian theme so that our new generation can know more about Indian culture. 'Rudra Veena' is unique in itself. It will be installed at a place in the city where people can take selfies with it. We will also install a musical system and lights in it so that it looks more beautiful," Deshpandey added.

A place at Atal Path in Bhopal has also been identified to place the veena, the artisan said to the news agency.

The artisans claim that the veena is the world biggest made out of waste materials.

"We have researched that such a huge Veena from scrap and trash has not been ever made. It is the biggest veena not only in Bhopal but also in the world. Nearly Rs 10 lakh have been spent in making of this Rudra Veena."
