Union Minister Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday said the BJP-led central government is taking all the necessary measures to restore peace and normalcy in the violence-hit Manipur. While talking to reporters, he said the Union Home Minister Amit Shah himself was monitoring the situation and taking all necessary steps to contain the trouble in Manipur, in which the death toll has increased to 54, reported news agency PTI. Rjiju further said, "Peace is required to take forward the development of the beautiful northeast as a society can progress only when there is peace.”
While speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event, Rijiju said, "Communal violence between two communities is a very unfortunate incident. Many lives have been lost and there is damage to property," as reported by News agency PTI.
He also called for a dialogue to resolve to matter and said both Meiteis and Kukis belong to the same state and need to live together. Speaking further on the matter, he said, "The entire northeast is witnessing fast development under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. Violence must not be allowed to dent it.”
Rijiju, who is from Arunachal Pradesh, said such incidents of violence impact the future of the people and harm the youth and women the most.

Manipur was struck by violence after members of the Kuki tribe and the majority Meitei community clashed with each other on Wednesday. This resulted in several deaths and displacement of thousands of people in the region.
The death toll has increased to 54, reported PTI.
Incidents of clashes between the two communities started following a 'Tribal Solidarity March' organised in the ten hill districts of Manipur to protest the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
Meiteis account for about 53 per cent of the state population and live mostly in the Imphal Valley region.
Meanwhile, Tribals Nagas and Kukis comprise another 40 per cent of the population and they live mostly in the hill districts of the state.
