Manipur Violence: CM N Biren Singh Meets Amit Shah In Delhi To Tackle Fresh Tensions

The meeting between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Manipur CM N Biren Singh is said to have been focused on bringing back peace and normalcy in the state in the backdrop of the fresh spurt of violence.

Guwahati: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, accompanied by four of his cabinet colleagues, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Sunday evening.
The meeting took place just a few hours after a few cases of fresh violence were reported from some of the districts of Manipur. As the fresh spurt of violence took place in the hill state, Chief Minister N Biren Singh took a chartered aircraft to the national capital along with his cabinet colleagues Th Biswajit, Yumnam Khemchand, Govindas Konthoujam, and Th Basanta Kumar.

The Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues were also accompanied by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Manipur Pradesh President A Sharda Devi.

The meeting between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Manipur CM N Biren Singh, along with his cabinet colleagues and state BJP chief, was reportedly focused on bringing back peace and normalcy in the state in the backdrop of the fresh spurt of violence breaking out.

According to the official figures, a total of 1,809 houses have been set ablaze since the violence erupted earlier this month.

On the other hand, with the recovery of another body from  Bishnupur district, which is one of the worst-affected districts in the state, the death toll in the violence rose to 73 on Sunday, ever since unprecedented violence tore apart the state on May 3.

According to the records available, about 46,145 people have been evacuated to their respective destinations by various means so far.

Moreover, altogether 26,358 people are still taking refuge at a total of 178 relief camps around the state in the wake of the simmering tension that is still haunting the people of the state.

Fresh Violence In Manipur: Internet Services Remain Suspended, Curfew Imposed In Parts

Incidents of sporadic violence are still being reported from some parts of the state. Two such incidents were reported from the Senapati and Churachandpur districts of the state on Saturday when armed miscreants fired upon two different patrolling teams of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles.

Though no casualty or injury from either side was reported in the first case, two personnel of the Assam Rifles sustained bullet injuries in the second incident. Both the injured soldiers were immediately evacuated from the place of occurrence.

Meanwhile, as Manipur continued to be tense, Internet services continued to be suspended and a curfew was imposed in some districts, although with a few hours of relaxation during the day.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh is all likely to address the media on Monday morning in the state capital to brief about his sudden visit to the National Capital along with his cabinet colleagues and state BJP chief.
