Schools For Classes 1 To 8 In Manipur To Start Functioning From Wednesday: CM N Biren Singh

Manipur Police said that the situation is tense in some places with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of unruly mob in the last 24 hours.

A day after four more persons were killed in two separate firing incidents in Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts, Manipur government on Monday decided to open schools from Wednesday, July 5 for classes 1 to 8. Speaking about the security situation, Chief Minister N Biren Singh stated: "The government has decided to deploy more security personnel in five districts," ANI reported.

Manipur police on Monday issued an official statement, stating that the situation is tense in some places with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of unruly mob in the last 24 hours, news agency ANI reported.

State police and central troops undertook a 24-hour search operation in vulnerable and periphery regions in both hill and valley districts, according to the statement. 

"Intermittent firing between armed miscreants was reported in the intervening night of 01.07.2023 and 02.07.2023 at the adjoining villages of Chinglangmei & Langza, Samulamlam Block, Churachandpur District. During the incident one person was reported to be dead and another person was injured. Operation was launched immediately by security forces and the armed miscreants were repelled," reads the official statement. 

Manipur police said that suspected armed miscreants fired from the abandoned Napat village and Tangjeng Ahallup areas of Bishnupur towards Khoubuk and Tangjeng Khunjao areas of Kakching. "Operation was launched by police in the area and the situation
was put under control," said a police statement. 

"About 118 Nakas/ Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police has detained 326 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the State. The checking at the nakas/checkpoints were intensified round the clock in order to prevent unwanted incidents," the police statement stated. 

Police made an appeal to the general public to assist in restoring normality in the state, to inform about any rumours by "phoning rumour free number - 9233522822 of Central Control room, and to promptly return and deposit weaponry, ammunition, and explosives to the police or security services."
