BJP Not A ‘Double Engine’, But ‘Trouble Engine' Govt: Assam Congress Chief Salvo At Himanta-Led Govt

Assam Congress President Bhupen Kumar Borah accused the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government of artificially inflating the GDP to secure loans while attacking him over various promises made by the BJP.

Guwahati: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Bhupen Kumar Borah on Friday criticised the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led state government, claiming that the Assam government is not a "double engine" but a "trouble engine" government. The APCC chief lamented that various promises made by the BJP-led Assam government of taking the state through the path of progress and development have not yet materialised in the state.

Bhupen Borah also accused Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of making false promises of creating jobs but ultimately failing to keep his promises.

The senior Congress leader highlighted the “discrepancies” in the state government's claims of providing millions of jobs, but in reality, the actual scenario is totally different, he claimed.

Bhupen Bora demanded accountability and explanation from the BJP government on the unfulfilled promises made by them of providing a total of 22 lakh jobs to the people of the state.

The Assam Pradesh Congress chief further criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party-led state government's financial mismanagement, alleging that the state's debt burden has increased significantly under the current administration under CM Himanta Sarma.

He pointed out a substantial increase in borrowing, from Rs 2,757 crore in 2012-13, to a staggering Rs 17,149 crore in 2021-22, with further plans of availing an additional Rs 25,000 crore loan in the days to come.

Bhupen Bora, accusing the state government of artificially inflating the GDP to secure loans, expressed concern over the proposed plan to take a loan of Rs 50,000 crore in the following year.
