Assam: Heroin Worth Rs 18 Crore On Grey Market Seized In Guwahati, 6 Arrested

Based on a tip-off, the teams of STF and Kamrup police intercepted an SUV vehicle at Amingaon in Kamrup district and during a thorough search, seized the consignment of narcotic drugs.

Guwahati: The Special Task Force (STF) of the Assam Police, along with a team of the Kamrup police, in a late-night operation on Monday, apprehended six persons and seized a large consignment of heroin in Amingaon, on the outskirts of Guwahati. The seized heroin is worth Rs 18 crore on the grey market.

Based on a tip-off, the teams of STF and Kamrup police intercepted an SUV vehicle at Amingaon in Kamrup district and during a thorough search, seized the consignment of narcotic drugs from secret chambers of the vehicle, packed in 170 soap cases, weighing 2.2 kilograms. The police also apprehended six drug peddlers, three residents of Assam and three hailing from Manipur.

The accused have been identified as Khalilur Rahman from Kamrup, Inamul Ali from Darrang, Abdul Ali from Kamrup, and Haopu Singson, Gogou Haokip, and Samingon Doungel from Manipur.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Kamrup, Kalyan Kumar Pathak, told ABP Live, “We got information that a Mahindra Thar was carrying narcotics from Churachandpur in Manipur to Lower Assam districts. Accordingly, the vehicle was intercepted at Saraighat, Amingaon, and three Manipur-based drug peddlers were apprehended. The three Assam-based drug peddlers, who were supposed to receive the consignment, were also apprehended from Sachika Hotel in Amingaon. The vehicle was searched and hidden compartments built in the vehicle yielded 170 soap cases filled with heroin, weighing 2.2 kilograms. All the accused have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and will be produced before the special court dealing in NDPS Act cases.”

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while congratulating the state police team for their achievement wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “In a special anti-drugs operation carried out by the STF Assam, a vehicle coming from a neighbouring state was intercepted at Amingaon & 2.2 kg of heroin has been recovered. 6 people have been arrested in this connection. Good job Assam police. Drugs free Assam.”

The Assam police seized nearly 4.59 kilograms of heroin, valued at Rs 43 crore and arrested a total of 14 drug traffickers in multiple operations carried out in Guwahati in the last two days.
