Assam CM Plans World's Largest Bihu Performance In New Delhi, Aiming To Break Previous Record

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma plans the world's largest Bihu performance in New Delhi with 25,000 participants, aiming to set a new world record.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Saturday his plan to stage the world's largest Bihu performance in New Delhi. With approximately 25,000 Bihuwas and Bihuwatis expected to participate, Sarma expressed his determination in a tweet to break the previous record and set a new world record. Bihu is a vibrant and traditional Assamese folk dance that is celebrated with zeal during the Bihu festival. Further details about the upcoming event are expected to be announced in due course.

In a tweet, Sarma wrote: "Coming soon ~ 25,000 Bihuwas and Bihuwatis to perform the World’s Largest Bihu in New Delhi."

Earlier in April, Assam made history and cemented its place in the record books with "the largest Bihu performance at a single venue." Over 11,000 nasonis (dancers) and dhuliyas (drummers) participated in the massive attempt to break the Guinness World Record.

The record was set around 5.45 pm on April 13 at Guwahati's Sarusajai Stadium. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to attend the historic event, but it was rescheduled for April 13. The goal of the mega Bihu performance was to break the Guinness World Record for the largest dance performance in a single venue.

Performers practised for this performance for a long time, with auditions taking place across the state to bring in the best of the best for this massive event.

Earlier in March, Guinness World Records named a collection of 42.9 lakh essays on Ahom commander Lachit Borphukan the largest online photo album of handwritten notes.

Guinness World Records adjudicator Swapnil Dangarikar presented Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma with the official letter of recognition at the Janata Bhawan in Guwahati.

Between October and November 2022, entries for the Guinness World Records Hall of Fame were being uploaded to a portal. The process began after the 400th birth anniversary celebrations of the great Ahom general, Lachit Borphukan, concluded in the national capital.
